Sabbath Rest started in 1986 in Minneapolis, MN when Alec and Sharon Doren, together with guitarist Jim Maus, recorded their first album, On Our Way Rejoicing.

When Alec and Sharon moved to Tennessee in January of 1987, they prayed that God would provide another guitarist. In November, God answered that prayer when they met Bruce Patterson, a virtuoso classical guitarist and composer. Just one week after meeting, they recorded the group’s second album, We Lift Our Songs to Thee.

For the next several years, they traveled extensively throughout the United States, performing at a wide variety of venues such as churches, schools, retirement homes, weddings, and corporate events.

In 1989, Sandra Pinkoski joined the group and sang on their videos recorded at Three Angels Broadcasting Network (3ABN).

In 1992, Sabbath Rest recorded their third album, Holy is the Lord, which features songs by both Bruce and Alec.
They rounded out this productive period with two singles, a new setting of Psalm 98, composed by Alec and Truly Truth Prevails, an original song composed by Bruce. Through the years, the Dorens and Bruce have stayed in touch and continue to share ideas and compose.

Our prayer is that the music of Sabbath Rest will bless all those that listen and draw them closer to God.
